Weather satellite images

When the lack of a transmitting antenna forced me into the "listening" mode (circa 1994) I became interested in the reception of images from weather satellites.

NOAA15, NOAA17, NOAA18 and the recently launched NOAA 19 are polar orbiting satellites. At one time I used to upload a new picture once a day, although there was never a guarantee that this would always happen. Now I only update when there is an interesting weather situation.

Meteosat is one of a group of geo-stationary satellites like the Sky (Astra) satellites. Direct reception is no longer possible with second generation 'birds' (MSG) and the data is disseminated via the Eurobird commercial satellite at 9° East. This has some advantages for the amateur community.

For more information on both types of satellite please visit the GEO (Group for Earth Observations) site. (See my Links page).
